On Behalf of the People
On Behalf of The People was commissioned by The National Coal Mining Museum for England to mark the seventieth anniversary of the nationalisation of the coal industry in 1947. This is a moving story of Connie and George, Tom and Liz as the country emerges from war. A story of family, community and hope for a brighter future – where public good and welfare for all come before private profit.
“The play’s full of little surprises – often, just when you think you’ve understood, you haven’t” – Rony Robinson
As a result of the reception the play got in 2017, The Melting Shop Theatre Company secured an Arts Council grant to take the play on tour in 2018. See below for details.
